The biggest and ever growing market in the city of Managua. Also the worse place to visit if you are a tourist – Lots of crime!

The Mercado Oriental is an Enormous market, there is many sections to it. There is a large section with fruits and Vegetables, There are sections with Clothing, furniture, electronics, Fabrics, plastics, and so on. Many are comfortable with shopping on the outskirts of the market.

Many of these stores on the outside include 3-4 story buildings filled with merchandise. The Fruits and Vegetables section is fairly open air. As you venture way inside of the market you will get the better deals, but the inside gets very confusing, an enormous maze.

The normal street smarts helps in a market like this, obviously just bring what you need for your purchases, no purses or cameras and jewellery.

It may help to have someone that is familiar with the market go with you.

No one actually knows the entire market, everyone knows small sections of it. So before you go think about what you want to buy and ask people where in the market you can find these items.
